“I’ll Buy You a Rocket”

There is a lyric in The Spin Doctors “Two Princes” that goes “One has diamonds in his pockets…This one said he wants to buy you rockets”, which has always stuck with me. In that song, the idea was that the richer of the Princes would win the heart against someone with no money and no breeding. As I was writing this, I wondered what would happen if someone only had money to appeal to someone, but that wasn’t what they were after.

There’s nothing I wouldn’t do

To please you

There’s no place I wouldn’t go

To be near you

There’s nothing I wouldn’t say

To see you smile

There’s not a thing I wouldn’t buy

To win your heart

You may not like material things

But that’s all I have to give

I will take you to a place where

Grass is green and skies are blue

And if you want me to

I’ll buy you a rocket

And I will give you everything

Gold and silver, diamonds too

And if you want me to

I’ll buy you a rocket

I don’t know what to do

To please you

Don’t know where to turn

To be near you

I will play the fool

To see you smile

I’ll drain my future dry

To win your heart

You may not like material things

But that’s all I have to give

I will take you to a place where

Grass is green and skies are blue

And if you want me to

I’ll buy you a rocket

And I will give you everything

Gold and silver, diamonds too

And if you want me to

I’ll buy you a rocket

I don’t have the way

To please you

I can’t bear to walk away

Than be near you

I don’t have the words

To make you smile

If I can’t buy the win

I can’t win your heart

You may not like material things

But that’s all I have to give

I will take you to a place where

Grass is green and skies are blue

And if you want me to

I’ll buy you a rocket

And I will give you everything

Gold and silver, diamonds too

And if you want me to

I’ll buy you a rocket
